This tutorial will show you how to create a tab in the Hypershade which is mapped to a reference materials library that you have saved on your machine or a network drive. I will be using the shaders that are available for free download in the Alias download area as an example. You can download these shaders here: link
- 1) First you need to make sure you have a folder located on your system to store all your textures. click for image

- 2) Next you will launch Maya and open the Hypershade. (Window > Rendering Editors > Hypershade…)

- 3) From there you will use the pull down menu “Tabs > Create New Tab…” click for image

- 4) Then you will decide if you want the tab to be located in the top or bottom area of your Hypershade workspace and select the appropriate radio button. click for image

- 5) Enter the name you would like for the tab in the “New Tab Name” field and choose the "Tab Type: Disk" option.

- 6) Browse your system or type the path name for where your materials folder is located into the “Root Directory” field. click for image

- 7) Click the [Create] button and you will now see your new tab with the shaders library ready for easy access. click for image
